Doncaster East congregation adopts proposed Shared Futureproposal
07-Jun-2011
At a special congregational meeting called on Sunday 29th May to consider the proposal that Congregation of Doncaster East Uniting Church enter into a shared future together with the Congregations of Pilgrim Uniting Church and Templestowe Uniting Church, the proposal was adopted unanimously.

Pilgrim Uniting Church and Templestowe Uniting Church have also adopted, unanimously, the proposal at meetings also held on the same morning.

The proposal was brought to the Congregation from the Manningham Steering Committee by Church Council chairperson Matthew Hughes, who outlined reasons why the proposal should be adopted. Apologies were received, and letters from those who were unable to attend but wished their comments to be brought to the meeting were read. The meeting then moved to the discernment and decision stage using the consensus voting process. After clarification of three questions, those present indicated unanimous support for the proposal and Congregational Chairperson Ian Bennett declared the proposal adopted.

The three congregations formally requested Yarra Yarra Presbytery to ratify our desire to form a new Manningham Uniting Church at their meeting on Wednesday June 1st.

This is another momentous occasion in the faith journey of our congregation and it is important to acknowledge that whilst we do not yet know all of the answers as to what our future holds, we are a community built on relationships with each other as well as our individual experiences and faith. We value everyone in our community so I challenge all of us to look after each other and to listen, discuss and pray in this time of change.
Matthew Hughes, Church Council Chairperson;
Ian Bennett Congregational Chairperson.
